I stood there and gaped at my reflection in the mirror. Having not worn a swimsuit in 7 months, I’d expected to look a little pasty, a little momish, maybe even a little frumpy…but WHAT was THIS? WHO was this CREATURE standing in front of me all misshapen and upholstered?!? I certainly had not given her permission to be in my bedroom, let alone wear my clothes. I was disappointed and sad because I’d let myself go, and I had become that stereotypical mom in her 40′s who had just given up. I realized that this year had marked the second round of clothes purchased in larger sizes to accommodate my recent growth. Two rounds of acceptance of a myth that turns out wasn’t really true AT ALL – you get older and you get out of shape. It’s just a fact of life. That was B.S., and I finally called it on that day. In this moment 43fitness was born; a cure for the common mom.
If this sounds like you, then just know that it doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to feel this way, and the truth about achieving fitness will set you free. I bought into the idea that discounting self-care and prioritizing others at all costs is required for the average American female. I’m here to tell you that it’s not! Since my transformation I’ve lost 23 pounds, and I’ve heard from other women like me who are striving for a change like I’ve experienced. I can help you get to the AFTERlife if you just put faith in yourself and do the work.
Part of that work is understanding details behind the cornerstones of fitness that sometimes are misinterpreted or ignored:
Food – Did you know that 80% of fitness is nutrition? You can do 1000 crunches a day, but it won’t matter because abs are made in the kitchen.
Along with information-driven articles, videos and detailed meal and exercise plans, you will also find a few anecdotes about my personal journey including milestones, triumphs, transgressions, and motivation.
Most importantly, however, I hope you find the strength, courage and determination to make the changes you desire. All the reading and researching and asking of questions isn’t enough. This is all about YOU and what you really want. YOU have to stop talking and start doing. YOU have to identify and change your patterns of failure. YOU have to pave a path for success and take control of your future. Eating clean and working out is not the hard part. The hard part is letting go of your fear and taking what you want. It’s right there in front of you with your name all over it. Reach out. Take it. OWN IT.
