Boyfriends Make You Fat

Have you ever heard of the “boyfriend layer?” It’s the inch(es) of fat that often come from staying up late with your honey drinking wine, then eating pizza and watching tv together on Sundays together.  It comes from skipping your morning workouts to get in extra cuddle-time, and generally trashing all of your healthy habits because you have hearts in your eyes.  I’ve got the boyfriend layer.  My blog, Boyfriends Make You Fat, is all about getting rid of it.

This summer I reached the highest weight of my adult life.  It took me a long time to notice the weight gain because of all the love coming from my partner.  However, once I realized I looked like meat stuffed into sausage casing in every piece of clothing I owned, I knew I had to do something.  I wasn’t happy with what I looked like on the outside, and through blogging, I realized it was because there was a lot that needed work on the inside.

Unhealthy eating patterns can be caused by so many things, and I explore all of them at BMYF: low self-esteem, emotional eating, coping with sickness and loss, toxic foods, and of course, love-eating.  The blog is SO MUCH MORE than that, though!  I write about sports and training (lots of running, doing my first triathlon in June), tv shows (anyone else over this season of The Biggest Loser?), movies, music (Robyn, yes please!), clothes and things (one day boyfriend jeans will look good on me, I swear) – really anything that gets me pumped up and motivated to live my best life.

While I’ve lost weight before – and gained it back, of course – this is a singular life-long journey to peace on the inside and hotness on the outside.  I’m not only getting rid of those lbs, but also all the baggage that has accumulated over the years from bad dates, crash diets and ill-fitting swimsuits.  It’s a slow road, but one well-worth taking.  I have one rule for my blog: “post daily.”  Come check it out – maybe you’ll want to read everyday!

Too funny, I’ve got a boyfriend, husband and kid(s) layers!

I agree with you, it’s a slow road worth taking and we need to work on the inside to see results on the outside. I look forward to checking out your blog!

My husband and I both got our ‘layers’ when we first moved in together, but luckily we both lost them before our wedding!
