Brooke: Not On A Diet

How many times have you heard the phrase “I’m on a diet” or have said the phrase yourself? I’m sure more times than you could ever count. It appears that everyone anymore is on a diet of some sort.

I have been there plenty of times! There was the grapefruit diet, the I’m only going to eat fruit and veggies diet, low-carb, and countless others. But in 2009 I quit dieting and walked into a Weight Watchers meeting. I tipped the scales at 327.6lbs, my highest weight ever recorded.

I quickly dove into a lifestyle where I ate healthy, cooked daily, and began exercising. Then I started blogging about it over at Brooke: Not On A Diet in November of 2009 when I had lost a total of 75lbs.

My journey has had it’s fair share of ups and downs. There are stories about a new found dating life, finally finding “the one,” and eventually getting married. Scattered throughout that are exercise challenges, tips on how to make working out a habit, and even some healthy recipes! Oh and the occasional not so healthy recipe (French Toast Cupcakes, anyone?). Probably shouldn’t forget about the awesome opportunities I have been given along this journey either.

Since the beginning of my life not being on a diet, I have overcome silly fears and have now lost a total of 150lbs. I know that this is a lifestyle and that I will be doing this forever and I hope to continue inspiring people along the way!

  1. Brooke is fantastic. I have followed her through her journey, meeting THE guy, marrying him and continuing on in her “not a diet” lifestyle. As a more mature woman, who started out at almost exactly the same point as Brooke did (328 lbs. for me), before losing 175 pounds and hitting my goal in April of 2011, I identify with her so much. You ROCK Brooke!

  2. Congratulations! 150 pounds is amazing. Like you, I was not on a diet. It was a lifestyle change for me and I lost 110 pounds as a result. Now my lifestyle is healthy and active and I love it!

  3. Congrats on all your progress! Good tip that we should frame our attack differently. We need to change our lifestyle instead of “going on a diet”. The first should last a life time while the second suggest a temporary fix.

  4. You are amazing Brooke! I admire your determination and you inspire me to continue with my weight loss program that I’ve already been into for a couple of months and it seems to not working. But I’ll try and try until I succeed just like you. Congrats!
