Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Danielle (I also go by Danni). When I started to blog a good oh…two years ago, I never had the slightest intention of authoring a healthy living blog. My blog, Healthy Kitschy Vegan, was originally just a blog where I posted the food I made for my family every day. Yes, you read right. I didn’t post what I ate, because at the time I was hardly consuming any food at all. For some time, I felt like a fraud, rather than an honest blogger. I made it seem like I was eating all of the tasty vegan treats I was posting, but I was not. It was at that point I opened up my readers to the fact that I was in the midst of struggling with a nasty eating disorder.
For a long time I struggled. For a long time, the only type of exercise I did all day, every day was cardio, cardio, cardio. I wasn’t healthy. I was majorly sick. It was not until just last year when I finally started to get my crap together and caring about my health. Rather than striving to be skinny…I started to be strong. I started reading a bunch of Healthy Living Blogs, and started thinking ” Why can’t that be me? I can do that to…” And I did. Gradually, I started exercising and eating more, documenting every advancement and pitfall on my blog.
What I write on my blog probably isn’t all that easy to ready sometimes – I don’t lie about a single detail of my struggles. But in my eyes, it’s better to be real than lie about my past struggles. Being real also illuminates how much better of a state I am in now than I was just a year ago. Now I am 100% dedicated to being healthy, both in fitness and nutrition. Now instead of pounding it out on cardio machines, I strength train, and I am a huge fan of both Jillian Michaels’ and Bob Harper’s workout DVDs for a quick workout. I try to take advantage of the fact that I am healthy and strong now, and I want to try my best to keep improving my current state.
