Back in April, my husband and I made the decision to take an international work assignment for his job, which meant that my days as a middle school teacher in Calgary, Alberta would soon be drawing to a close.
It was a difficult realization for me; I’d always been very independent and took a great deal of pride in my career. However, despite all of the sadness I felt while packing up my classroom in June, I could not deny the excitement I had for all that was ahead of me.
Fast-forward six months, and here I am in Brisbane, Australia, expecting our first baby in February! I am not currently teaching, but instead taking courses towards a diploma in personal fitness training. I am over 12 000 km away from my family, friends, and everything that I’ve ever known. Life has changed dramatically for me, and sometimes the thought is slightly overwhelming and incredibly daunting.
However, this change in my life has given me the opportunity to do something that I probably wouldn’t have, had my environment not changed. I am studying and working my way towards a life that revolves around what I love and for which I feel passion: fitness, health, and helping others. Although I was fulfilled teaching and mentoring children, there was always something more that I wanted to do, but just didn’t have the time, resources, or the means to pursue it.
I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to start making my aspirations a reality. It would be easy to sit back and continue along the road that I’d always known, but I have chosen to take some risks and follow my passion and my heart, no matter how long it takes me to get there.
I began my blog, Femme Fitale, as a way to express myself creatively. In doing so, I decided to focus on the things that I am most passionate about: living a fit, healthy, and happy life. Whether I have had 9 readers or 900, it hasn’t mattered to me. What matters is that I am doing a little more of what I love each day, in hopes that it leads me to even greater personal fulfillment. Femme Fitale is my project that allows me to reach out to others and hopefully give them something positive to think about after visiting my little space on the web.
I invite you to stop by my blog and read a little bit About Me, and my philosophies pertaining to fitness, health, and life in general. I don’t believe in extreme diets or excessive exercise – their longevity seems unrealistic, unattainable, and emotionally debilitating. Instead, I believe in the creation of a life that revolves around new experiences, facing fears, challenging oneself, and positive thinking, all the while maintaining consistency in diet and exercise.
I came across this video back in April when my “life as I knew it” was headed into uncharted territory. I revisit Danielle’s ‘pep talk’ every so often to remind myself of my goals and to help me stay on track. Dreams don’t just magically happen.
Whether it’s weight loss, career endeavors, or finding your happiness, it’s going to take some consistent effort. I hope that by sharing my personal experiences in fitness, health, and life, that I can provoke thought and provide encouragement and insight for others. To me, there is nothing more fulfilling.
