Whit Likes Fit

Hi, I’m Whitney.  I live in Portland, OR and I absolutely love fitness.  At one point I was a certified personal trainer and worked at a gym on the weekends, which was great except that I also had a full-time job and eventually realized I couldn’t do both.   So I focused on my 8-5 and now spend my free time working out and educating myself on all things fit – new workouts, healthy recipes, etc. I also read tons of fitness blogs and finally decided to start my own – both to help me track my personal fitness goals and to have a place to store all of the random health and fitness knowledge I’d been absorbing. That’s where Whitlikesfit came in.  And even though it started as place just for me, I realized that I wanted it to be something more.  Someplace where other people could come to get inspired and hopefully fall in love with fitness and health, just like I did.

On any given day you might read about my daily workout, a recipe I tried, or about the beer I drank the night before.  See besides working out, I love traveling, country music, cowboy boots, and spending time with great friends and family.  Obviously these kind of adventures make it hard to stay fit.  But that’s life. It’s short and we only get one.  So enjoy it. Eat the cookie, have the glass of wine but go to the gym and make smarter choices the next day. Being healthy is one big balancing act, and I’m just trying to avoid falling off the balance beam :)

So how do I stay fit? I absolutely love running (I’ve run Hood to Coast 4 times) but my knees have told me otherwise (arthritis, IT band, tight hips, weak glutes, you name it) and now I’m on a mission to stay fit doing workouts I love without winding up in a wheel chair by the time I’m 40. Some of my faves? Pilates – reformer and mat, low impact interval training, group power, spin classes and the occasional Zumba. Oh and how could I forget my fave lady Jillian Michaels? I have tons of her DVDs which I do on days when I can’t get to the gym.

  1. I need inspiration in a funk. I can you suggest a fitness log? I never committed to writing things down and its taking its toll. I bring a copy of Oxygen Mag and follow their workouts but I’m not gaining and I know it’s because I’m not following a plan. I’m also falling away from Clean Eating. I don’t want to loose all that I’ve gained.

    I’m 55 years old and would like to become a personal training in my retirement. Just not feeling it lately I need could use some encouragement.
